August 15, 1871, New Jersey appointed Fish Wardens in each county
adjoining the Delaware River to enforce Fishing Regulations. Fish
Wardens were paid $100 per year salary. In 1884 Fish Wardens were
empowered to enforce game laws enacting them as NJ Fish & Game
Wardens. In 1896 a position as Deputy Game Warden was created. This
position was unpaid as it is today and at its height, it numbered
in the hundreds. If anyone has any information or material related
